Pastor Mark’s Date Night Tips | The Mars Hill Blog

Pastor Mark’s Date Night Tips The Mars Hill Blog

1.Parents, if you can’t afford a sitter, is there a way to set up a rotation with three other families to take turns each week watching kids for date night?
2.Husbands, when is your date night? Your wife needs it. You do, too. Grace and I have enjoyed Friday date nights for about 20 years.
3.Husbands, don’t waste every date night at a movie where you can’t talk. Use the time to visit with your wife, draw her out, and study her like you do the Bible.
4.Husbands, plan out your date nights. Ask you wife in advance what sounds good, see what your options are, and make a plan. She’ll be thankful.
5.Date night killers: no plan, selfishness, laziness, letting technology keep interrupting, and doing the same old predictable thing.
6.Time with other couples now and then is OK, but if most date nights involve other people, there is likely an intimacy disconnect in the marriage.
7.Dads, moms who stay home all day with the kids need to get dressed up, taken out, and have some adult conversation with their husbuddy.
8.Husbands, what can you do to find some creative ways to make date night fun and endearing even on a tight budget?
9.Husbands, what can you start doing days or hours before date night to build the expectation of connection with your wife? Flowers, cards, calls, texts?
10.When life gets crazy, the kids are sick, etc. is there any way to sneak in a bit of a date night at home with say a soak in the tub together, glass of wine etc. after the kids go to sleep?
11.Sometimes sending the kids out to someone’s house and having a date night at home can be cheap and fun if planned right.
12.Men, you don’t pursue a woman to marry her and stop pursuing her. You pursue a woman to marry her and pursue her with more passion and creativity than ever. How’s it going husbands?
13.Men, you don’t need to understand women. You will be doing better than most men to understand just one woman. Date nights are to ask inviting questions, listen, and learn about her. It’s also a night to open up and let her do the same.
14.Men, if you don’t date your wife, someone else may eventually volunteer for the job.
15.Ladies, sometimes it’s a great gift to go into your husband’s world for a date night by doing something like putting on a jersey going to a game and eating a hot dog. His love language may just be hot dog.
16.Men: find a shirt with buttons, try two eyebrows instead of one, find a breath mint or 20, show up with a gift, don’t ogle other women, and go to a restaurant that does not have a spork.
17.Sometimes the best date night is date breakfast, date lunch, or surprise pick up your spouse from work for an hour at a hotel.
18.For some they are bored games, but if your spouse likes board games, date night could be a nice spot, a beverage of choice and time to play and chat.
19.Sometimes takeout is fun and a drive to somewhere more private to turn it into a picnic or adventure.

Are you scared of the police?

I don't know why but whenever i see police i get like really scared lol.

it's funny because i know they're not after me but i still get scared for some reason lol.

It's like today, I was crossing the yellow light pretty fast but it was still yellow. This police car was driving behind me for like 15 minutes and I was like..gg..is he like trying to catch me because i went pass a yellow light? but i thought that's fine? oh no did i do something wrong? and if he wants to catch me why isn't he turning on that eiyor eiyor lights thing to catch me?

Yeah...I was pretty scared...in my head i was already thinking : okay do I have my license ready? yes i do...okay oh no did I put my green Ps sign properly? oh yes i did. okay no phones around me? yeah no phones good...oh no wait i got a gps...oh yeah that's legal.

On the way back from uni, there were 2 other police cars driving near me. One next lane the other infront.

It's funny how many police cars I can see in a day at such a short trip as well.

Maybe it's a sign for me that I shouldn't drive like a gun next time- i.e talking on the phone.

my mum also told me today: oh yeah btw you know that day i had a phonecall from someone i was really scared so like i stopped and pick my phone call up...oh yeah and my friend..she had a phonecall while she was driving and she did not pick it up..yeah..

and i was like...did gladys tell you something or you managed to find the link to my blog?

then she did the most suspicious face to me.

gun gladys.

I'm going to get into an accident one day am i?

I hope the police never finds this blog.

DFO is my only hang out place and they took it away from me =(

Cherish your Grandparents.

Today I decided to bring my grandma to Westfield for shopping. It was just a good outing day for both of us. I guess I never really got to spend proper one to one time with my grandma especially since I moved here 9 years ago.

It's funny, my grandma used to drive me everywhere when I was young and now I'm driving her =)

She told me that I used to be really naughty and used to paint my nails in her car.

I told my grandma I would buy something for her but she refused to accept anything. Her rule is : I will only steal all your money when you start working.

However, I told her about this Cash On Delivery thing I did by selling my Investments book and told her it was an "income" so she happily accepted a handbag from me and said I was "smart to earn money" and that I should not "stay home and be a housewife" but make use of my talent to "do business and earn heaps of money".

My grandma like complaining alot about other people. I used to get frustrated with it alot, but I actually like it now. I think as I grow older, I understand things better. Sad and perhaps harsh to say but grandma's already 80 and eventhough she's still really strong and healthy, you'll never know when it will happen. I just want to cherish each day I have with her before I regret.

Thus, I really do want to make use of the remaining month I have left with my grandma. I just want to be there for her, to be her listener, she was talking about all these problems and I really don't know what to say. But I don't think I needed to say anything, I did all she wanted from me is- listen.

As I grow older as well, I start to understand how old people think. When I was young, I thought my grandma would be happy with me if I bought her something nice. But now, I understand that she would be most happy with that something nice was me instead. Sometimes we could use all the money we have to buy them the most beautiful diamond in the world or shout them abonloney dinners, but I don't really think that's what they want. Gifts are a form of pleasure but the most precious gift is the time they get from their loved ones.

Sometimes it's sad because our grandparents and even parents want to know absoulutely everything about us but yet we're too shy or refuse to let them know everything about us.

I find that often the most sincere smiles I get from both my parents and grandparents is during the time where I actually sit down and just have a nice chat with them.

I'm glad that my grandma came down to Australia and I really hope I can learn how to be a better granddaughter.

The happiest day that I hope would arrive would be the day she accepts Christ as her Saviour and Lord.

Love you mama!

I am no longer a fob!

yayyy I passed my Australian Citizenship test with 100%!!

so now what that I'm an Australian..

hmm...

vote?

Yeah..finally..been waiting for a long time to vote...I'm so like..excited to vote.

I realised that I have to pay $260 to apply for citizenship through PR. But, if I end up marrying an Australian and then change my citizenship after, I only need to pay $130- half price! save $130!! But, if my dad told me earlier that he had already converted his citizenship few years ago, I could have been registered under him and get it for FREE!

Sigh, already an Australian but still think like a Malaysian.

I guess..once a fob, forever a fob.

Law is just not made for me

It's 2.33 now and I finally finished my tax assignment! Actually no. I haven't. I went way over the word limit and gotta cut things down now. Looks like I can't sleep till 3am tonight. I think this is like the second law assignment I've done in my whole life and I just really hate it not because the content is hard, but because of all these stupid law ppl being so particular and precise that eventhough it's just a simple answer:

"Jose is a resident of Australia for tax purposes" but it ended up being a whole draggy essay with heaps of points and the annoying part is to cite it with relevant law and ruling and to find case that supports the argument.

I don't know how all my law friends can survive with such boring uni life.

GG luckily there's only one more big law assignment for me to do in my whole life.

When I was young, I had 3 ambitions:

1. Lawyer
2. Model
3. Actress

Can't be a model due to height, looks like I'll never ever be a lawyer, so I guess the last thing for me to pursue is..acting?

Oh wait gg can't sleep by 3am still got citizenship test to study! =(

If I fail tmr please don't laugh at me.

Might give oversized glasses a go

Had a hair cut today! really like it. my hairstylist was wearing an oversized glasses and i thought it looked really good on her. Maybe I should give oversized glasses a go! Eventhough I might look fully ugly, at least it'll cover my "no make up face" fully since the frames are so big.

If i'm going to go ugly anyway might as well go to the max!

What's my first language?

I was doing a communication subject tute work the other day talking about challenges we find in our interpersonal communication. One of the question was : Is English your first language?

I thought to myself..okay..how many languages can i speak fluently? Not much. English, Mandarin, Cantonese.

So..which of these 3 is my first language?

Obviously the one I speak at home- English. But i thought to myself...Eventhough English is so called my "first" language...I have never really mastered this language...I speak this language everyday, write this language everyday, listen to this language everyday, but somehow I can just never get good in English. Often there are times where I'd have to google or get on www.dictionary.com when i talk to guns like Devin and Tim on msn. They just like using what i call "big words" (eg sinister instead of bad) thinking that I would understand it..but..i just dont.

So is English really my frist language? Yes but No. Is Chinese/Cantonese my first language? Definitely not in a million years. So what's English then? I tend to call it "My half first language.." which basically means English is my first language but I'm just not very good at it.

I think most Malaysians can identify with me in this way. We know our grammar, it's just that we never use it. We speak English everyday, just not in the right way.

Eh what you doing tmr ah? - What are you doing tomorrow?
you ah, why you always like that one? Why are you always acting like that?
Eh this one how ah? - How do you do this?
Aiyo i dont want la you eat la- No, I do not want to eat. How about you eat it instead?
eh switch off the light- Pls turn the lights off.
aiya i fetch you home la you take bus so mah fan- Don't bother taking a bus, it's too inconvenient. I will give you a lift home.
eh you don't play play with me ah, i know wing chun wan! - Don't mess around with me. I know Wing Chun.

and so on...

I wonder when can I finally call English, my frist language.

Found this from Facebook- 43 things a girl wish for a guy to know.

#1 When you break her heart, the pain never really goes away.

#2 When she misses you, she’s hurting inside.

#3 When she says it’s over, she still wants you to be hers.

#4 When she walks away from you mad, follow her.

#5 When she stares at your mouth, kiss her.

#6 When she pushes or hits you, grab her tight & don’t let her go.

#7 When she starts cursing at you, kiss her and tell her you love her.

#8 When she ignores you, give her your attention.

#9 When she pulls away, pull her back.

#10 When you see her at her worst, tell her she’s beautiful.

#11 When you see her crying, just hold her and don’t say a word.

#12 When you see her walking, sneak up and hug her waist from behind.

#13 When she’s scared, protect her.

#14 When she lays her head on your shoulder, tilt her head up and kiss her.

#15 When she steals your favourite jacket, let her keep it and sleep with it for a night.

#16 When she teases you, tease her back and make her laugh.

#17 When she doesn’t answer for a long time, reassure her that everything is okay.

#18 When she looks at you with doubt, back yourself up with the truth.

#19 When she says that she likes you, she really does more than you could understand.

#20 When she grabs your hands, hold hers and play with her fingers.

#21 When she bumps into you, bump into her back and make her laugh.

#22 When she tells you a secret, keep it safe and untold.

#23 When she looks at you in your eyes, don’t look away until she does.

#24 Stay on the phone with her even if she’s not saying anything.

#25 Don’t let her have the last word.

#26 Don’t call her hot, but gorgeous or beautiful is so much better.

#27 Say you love her more than she could ever love you.

#28 Argue that she is the best girl ever.

#29 When she’s mad, hug her tight and don’t let go.

#30 When she says she’s OK, don’t believe it, talk to
her about it, because 10 yrs later she’ll still remember it.

#31 Call her at 12:00am on special occasions to tell her you love her.

#32 Call her before you sleep and after you wake up.

#33 Treat her like she’s all that matters to you.

#34 Don’t ignore her when she’s out with you and your friends.

#35 Stay up all night with her when she’s sick.

#36 Watch her favorite movie with her or her favorite show even if you think its stupid.

#37 Let her into your world.

#38 Let her wear your clothes.

#39 When she’s bored and sad, hang out with her

#40 Let her know she’s important.

#41 Kiss her in the pouring rain.

#42 When she runs up at you crying, the first thing you say is; “Who’s ass am I kicking today baby?”

#43 After she reads this, she hopes one day you’d read it too.

Typical selfish mean Asian in the bus

Taking a bus seems like such an easy thing, but sometimes there are a lot of things that go through my mind when I step in the bus. And hopefully a lot of you can relate to me, if you dont, then clearly you're weird or I just think to much- like any other ordinary girl.

After validating the ticket, I seriously need to think a lot when looking for a space to sit. I usually have a spot that I usually take (in the middle before the steps close to the door near the window), but when that's taken, i think:

Okay should i sit in the front? oh no wait but i'm carrying soooo many bags today and it's so heavy if i sit infront surely there would be old ppl coming in later and i'd have to give my sit to them which means..i gotta stand up with my heavy bag for 1 hour! oh no! (mean and selfish thoughts)

then I start walking further ahead.

Oh no that guy looks a bit dodgy and scary might find somewhere else

then further..

oh wait that women is abit oversized i'd have no space to sit (sooo mean gloria wong can't believe i think things like that)

then further...
oh wait it's behind two couples hugging that's discussing.

then further..
oh two annoying year 9 kids talking..

then further..
oh no that lady is talking heaps on the phone...

then further..
oh wait that guy is reading mx which means the newspaper will come into my sit and i'd have no space

then further
oh no that guy has really loud music on his headphones..

then further..
oh wait that girl has a big bag on the floor i'd have no leg room..

then further
oh wait I KNOW THAT GUY but i don't really want to talk to him it'd be so awkward talking to him for the whole bus trip okay try to avoid eye contact.

then further..
eeeeew that guy is coughing heaps i don't wanna get sick.

then further..
oh no it's waaaay towards to end already I'd get a headache, can't breathe, and takes me ages to get out

and in the end...

There are no seats left.

Heaps of things to start repenting!

Bible study once a week helps heaps

I'm probably one of the laziest person out there. Especially when it comes to winter, I just hate getting out of my bed. Especially when I live in the city now, I just hate coming back to Balwyn.

"Why make an effort to go to YAG in a cold winter day? I mean it's full on traffic jam out there, it'll take you ages to reach balwyn, your mum hasn't prepared dinner and you still got like 40 pages of tax law to read for tonight " the little devil side of me spoke.

It's sorta the feeling that you know you're going to YAG anyway but because it has become a "routine" there's always this naughty voice besides you giving you reasons that somehow "justify" you for not going".

Then God broke those barries and allowed me to come for YAG tonight, with a real heart. I had no regret- a little late dinner, a little more driving, a little delayed reading is rewarded with an awesome reunion with God, deeper understanding of his word, increase in faith and fellowship with friends. Most importantly, I think I came home today with the benefit of learning someone new, instead of "oh it's just another YAG routine" day.

Cherish every little moment you have to spend that time with God. He gave it all to us, we don't even deserve it, but yet sometimes we take things for granted, we choose to avoid, neglet, reject.

The current YAG study we're doing is called Gospe[ in ]ife. Encourage all of you to join us for this time of fellowship with each other and with God. Come and you won't regret!

Shoo away that little naughty voice beside you and choose to listen only to His voice.
